Viime aikoina hänen kiinnostuksensa kohteena ovat olleet erityisesti elektroakustinen musiikki ja klassisromanttisen ohjelmiston esittäminen periodisoittimilla. Markus esiintyy aktiivisesti niin soolona, kamarimuusikkona kuin yhtyeittensä defunenemseblen, Uusinta Ensemblen ja Rödberg Trion (Antti Tikkanen, Markus Hohti, Joonas Ahonen) kanssa.
Kamarimuusiikkona Markus on esiintynyt merkittävillä festivaaleilla ja konserttisaleissa, kuten Berliinin Filharmoniassa, Zürichin Tonhallessa, Lucerne Festivalilla, Meidän festivaalilla, Kuhmon kamarimusiikissa ja Salzburger Biennalessa. Markus on kantaesittänyt satoja teoksia ja työskennellyt yhdessä muun muassa Pekka Kuusiston, Ralf Gothonin, Cyprien Katsarisin, Jaime Martinin, Alasdair Beatsonin, Thomas Demengan, Rainer Schmidtin, Gordan Nikolicin ja Malin Bromanin kanssa. Sooloesiintymisistä mieleenpainuvimpia ovat olleet Brian Ferneyhough’n legendaarisen Time and Motion Study 2 -teoksen esitys Helsingin juhlaviikoilla sekä Sebastian Fagerlundin Stone on Stone -teoksen kantaesitys Hannu Linnun johtaman Avanti!:n solistina.
Vuonna 2020 Markus Hohdilta julkaistiin kaksi uutta levyä. Brahmsin sellosonaatit sisältävällä levyllä, yhdessä pianisti Emil Holmströmin kanssa, Markus halusi palauttaa Brahmsin musiikkiin sen ilmaisun rikkauden palaamalla sellosonaattien esityksissään lähelle 1800-luvun jälkipuolen sointimaailmaa. Levy on saanut ylistäviä arvioita useissa medioissa, mm. Kare Eskola (YLE) luonnehti sitä näin: ”Hohdin ja Holmströmin Brahms on kuin näkisi paksun öljyvärimaalaukseen uudestaan, tehtynä selvillä ääriviivoilla ja pehmeästi liukuvina akvarelliväreinä.”
Toinen uutuuslevyistä on Rödberg Trion levy, joka sisältää Fanny ja Felix Mendelssohnin pianotriot. Levyllä tutkitaan Fannyn ja Felixin musiikillisia yhtäläisyyksiä ja eroja sekä pohditaan, minkälaisen säveltäjänuran Fanny olisi voinut tehdä jos aikakausi olisi ollut naissäveltäjille otollisempi. Tämäkin levy on saanut huomattavan positiivisia arvioita, mm. Veijo Murtomäki (HS) kirjoittaa levystä näin viiden tähden arviossaan: “Yli äyräiden uhkaa pursua Fanny Mendelssohn-Henselin d-molli-pianotrion op. 11 vimma. Siinä on valtaisasti energiaa ja halua näyttää, että täältä pesee! Ja kyllä peseekin, sillä Joonas Ahosen, Antti Tikkasen ja Markus Hohdin ajan soittimet mahdollistavat dynaamisten ääripäiden käytön ennen kuulemattomalla tavalla … Huippulevy!”
Vuonna 2021 ilmestyy jälleen uusi levy kun Markus Hohdin ja Samuli Kosmisen muodostaman duon levy julkaistaan. Luovan yhteistyön tuloksena on syntynyt musiikkia, jossa kuuluu vaikutteita klassisesta traditiosta, populäärimusiikista sekä niin minimalistisesta kuin elektronisestakin musiikista.
Markuksen aloitteesta syntyi vuonna 2011 Helsingin Musiikkitaloon uuteen musiikkiin keskittyvä KLANG-konserttisarja. Hän vastaa myös Ristiveto-festivaalin taiteellisesta suunnittelusta yhdessä pianisti Emil Holmströmin ja viulisti Eriikka Maalismaan kanssa sekä Kino Soi! -konserttisarjan suunnittelusta yhdessä Petja Kainulaisen, Liina-Mari Raivolan ja Hanna Hohdin kanssa.
